These terms are the agreement between you and Chukua when you use the app. By signing in you accept them. If you don't, please don't use Chukua.
What Chukua is
Chukua connects people who are giving things away with people nearby who want them. We don't own, inspect, store or deliver the items. Givers and takers arrange pickup between themselves.
Your account
- You must be 18 or older and use your own email or Google account.
- One person, one account. Keep your sign-in to yourself; you're responsible for what happens on your account.
Giving
- Only list things you own and are allowed to give away, for free.
- Describe them honestly, including faults, and use real photos.
- No phone numbers or payment requests in listings; pickup details are shared through the app once someone claims.
- Not allowed: anything illegal, stolen, recalled or unsafe, weapons, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, medicine, live animals, adult content, counterfeit goods, and anything else that breaks Kenyan law.
Claiming
- Only claim what you intend to pick up yourself. Claims are not for reselling.
- There are limits: a few open claims at a time, and missing pickups pauses claiming for a while.
- Where a claim fee applies, it is paid by M-Pesa to Chukua for using the service, not to the giver. During the pilot claims are free. If a giver cancels a paid claim, the fee is returned as Chukua credit.
Meeting safely
Meet in a public place where you can, bring someone if you'd like, and check the item before taking it. Chukua is not responsible for the condition of items or for what happens at a pickup, but please report anything that goes wrong so we can act on it.
Value estimates
The value shown on an item is a rough automatic estimate to help you decide if the trip is worth it. It is not an appraisal or a promise.
Your content
You keep ownership of your photos and text. You let Chukua show them in the app and on our website for as long as the listing is up, so the service can work.
When we can step in
We can remove listings, pause claiming or close accounts that break these terms or put others at risk. You can delete your account at any time from the app.
The service
Chukua is new and provided as it is. It may change, have bugs or be unavailable at times. To the extent the law allows, our liability to you is limited to the claim fees you paid in the last three months.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya. We'll try to sort out any problem with you directly first.
